Thursday was a night to forget for David Price, as the Boston Red Sox lefty recorded only four outs and allowed six runs on five hits before being lifted versus the Texas Rangers.

The veteran hurler insisted after the contest that his struggles weren't the result of a lingering injury, and just an overall poor performance.

"I sucked," he said, according to Ian Browne of MLB.com. "That's it."

Though his outing put the Red Sox in a hole, his team rallied to win 7-6 thanks to a strong bullpen showing and a late Xander Bogaerts home run. Price was encouraged by the resilience shown by his teammates.

"Bullpen came in, did an unbelievable job getting the last 23 outs of that ballgame," he added. "Offense bailed me out, helped us win that game and that's the type of game we can rally around and get stuff going."

With the win, the Red Sox are 36-34 on the season and 5-5 over the last 10. They trail the American League East-leading New York Yankees by 6 1/2 games.

It was the second-shortest outing for Price in 2019, and the most earned runs he's allowed since the Yankees plated eight against him last July. He left a start against the Houston Astros in May with flu-like symptoms after recording a pair of outs in the first inning on 15 pitches.
