The Philadelphia Phillies acquired infielder Brad Miller from the New York Yankees in exchange for cash considerations, according to Todd Zolecki of MLB.com. He is expected to join the Phillies for the upcoming weekend set against the Atlanta Braves.

Miller, 29, opened the season with the Cleveland Indians. He hit .250/.325/.417 with one home run in 14 games before being designated for assignment. After the move, Miller called out Cleveland for not actively trying to compete.

He signed a minor-league contract with the Yankees in late April and appeared in 41 games with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. He hit .294/.399/.596 with 10 home runs and 29 RBIs before being sent to the Phillies on Thursday.

While a starting gig is unlikely due to Cesar Hernandez, Rhys Hoskins, Jean Segura, and Maikel Franco locking down infield duties, Miller is expected to be an upgrade off the bench.

The versatile infielder had his best offensive season in 2016 when he smacked 30 home runs as a member of the Tampa Bay Rays.
