Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. left Friday's game against the Houston Astros after a pitch from right-hander Gerrit Cole hit him in the hand during the first inning.

The slugging infielder avoided a fracture and was later diagnosed with a left-hand contusion when X-Rays on his hand came back negative, the team announced.

Eric Sogard took over for him at third.

Guerrero has found a groove at the plate recently. Since May 14, he's hitting .304/.351/.569 with seven home runs and 18 RBIs, capping that off with a pair of three-hit games against the Baltimore Orioles this week.
