Dodgers' Urias reinstated from administrative leave
Julio Urias has been reinstated from his administrative leave, the Dodgers announced Tuesday.
The Los Angeles Dodgers left-hander was arrested on suspicion of domestic battery last Monday. The following day, Major League Baseball placed the 22-year-old on administrative leave, which lapses every seven days. MLB reserves the right to extend the leave every seventh day under the current collective bargaining agreement, but the league will opt not to.
Urias was cited for a misdemeanor after police responded to calls of an argument between a man and woman in the parking lot of the Beverly Center, according to A.J. Perez of USA TODAY Sports.
The league reportedly attempted to obtain mall security footage of Urias, but were unable to do so, according to Jeff Passan of ESPN. While Urias is expected to rejoin the team, the league's investigation into the arrest will remain open. Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Police Department has not released an incident report.
"We learned about the alleged incident this morning and are in the process of gathering information," the Dodgers said in a statement at the time, obtained by Perez. "As a result, we have no comment at this time regarding the incident. However, every allegation of domestic violence must be taken seriously and addressed promptly, and we will cooperate fully with the authorities and Major League Baseball to ensure that that happens in this case."
Prior to being placed on administrative leave, Urias owned a 3.18 ERA over 28 1/3 innings with four starts and five relief appearances.
The Dodgers open a two-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field on Tuesday.
