The New York Mets have designated struggling outfielder Keon Broxton for assignment, the team announced Friday.

Broxton slashed .143/.208/.163 with zero home runs and just two RBIs in 34 games for the Mets this year.

On Thursday, Broxton expressed his frustration over a lack of playing time - he's started just 10 contests and accrued 49 at-bats this season.

"I'm not here to make excuses or anything," Broxton said, according to Tim Healey of Newsday. "I think everybody in this game knows it's really hard to do, come off the bench and do it. Getting one (start) a week, if that. It's definitely tough.

"I work hard every day and try to prepare myself every day like I'm playing. When I get in there, I try not to think that I haven't had as many at-bats as everybody else or haven't had regular playing time. I try to get in there and get good pitches and put a good swing on it."

Mets general manager Brodie Van Wagenen traded three prospects to the Milwaukee Brewers in January for the 28-year-old.

"I don't think there's any regret because our focus was to make decisions based on the needs of the club at that particular time," Van Wagenen said, according to Deesha Thosar of the New York Daily News. "Unfortunately for both sides, this one didn't quite work out."

Broxton's best season came in 2017 when he put up a .719 OPS with 20 home runs in 143 games.

In a pair of corresponding moves, the team selected the contract of outfielder Carlos Gomez from Triple-A Syracuse and put outfielder Michael Conforto (concussion) on the seven-day injured list.
