Edwin Encarnacion played second base for the first time in his 15-year major-league career Thursday against the New York Yankees. He was almost injured on his first-ever play at the position.

The Seattle Mariners first baseman/DH rolled his wrist on the play but stayed in the game.

Encarnacion ended up at second in the bottom of the eighth after Jay Bruce pinch hit for Dylan Moore, who filled in for starter Dee Gordon after he was hit by a pitch and forced to leave the game. Bruce took over at first base, which left Encarnacion playing second.

The 36-year-old has made 674 career appearances at third base but hasn't manned the hot corner since 2013. He's also made 458 appearances at first and five in left field in addition to 682 as a DH.
