Report: Marlins, Romo agree to $2.5M deal
The Miami Marlins and right-handed reliever Sergio Romo reportedly agreed to a one-year contract on Tuesday worth $2.5 million plus incentives, according to Jesse Sanchez of MLB.com.
It was reported Monday that the Toronto Blue Jays had offered Romo a major-league contract, while the Minnesota Twins and Texas Rangers expressed interest as well.
Romo, 35, is a three-time World Series champion, memorably serving as the San Francisco Giants' closer for the final out of the 2012 Fall Classic.
The right-hander made five starts in 2018 as the opener for the Tampa Bay Rays. In 67 1/3 innings over 73 appearances, he posted a 4.14 ERA and 4.04 FIP.
Romo has struck out 28.2 percent of the batters he's faced over his 11-year career, compared to a 5.7 percent walk rate.
