Report: Giants eyeing Blue Jays' Pillar
The San Francisco Giants are interested in trading for Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Kevin Pillar, sources told Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area.
Pillar has a highlight reel of spectacular defensive plays on his resume and would fit in nicely in the spacious outfield at AT&T Park.
The 29-year-old slashed .252/.282/.426 with 15 home runs and a career-high 40 doubles in 142 games for the Blue Jays in 2018, which is mostly in line with his career numbers over parts of six big-league seasons. He's in his second year of arbitration eligibility and is scheduled to hit free agency in 2021.
The Giants are currently projected to open next season with Steven Duggar, Mac Williamson, and Chris Shaw manning the three outfield positions. Pillar could comfortably slot into center field if a trade is reached.
Several members of the Blue Jays' roster have been linked to trade speculation in recent weeks as Toronto enters a rebuild. The Colorado Rockies have reportedly discussed first baseman Justin Smoak and general manager Ross Atkins has been fielding calls on pitchers Marcus Stroman and Aaron Sanchez. Atkins even went so far to suggest either player could "absolutely" be moved for the right offer even if the likelihood of a trade is "not high."
