The San Diego Padres are reportedly the latest team to show genuine interest in trading for Miami Marlins catcher J.T. Realmuto, sources tell Jon Morosi of MLB Network.

Additionally, the New York Yankees - once rumored to be one of Realmuto's potential landing spots - are not seriously discussing a trade for the All-Star backstop, a source told Morosi.

The Padres currently have Austin Hedges penciled in as their starting catcher, but also acquired 23-year-old Francisco Mejia last summer in the trade that sent closer Brad Hand to the Cleveland Indians.

The market to acquire Realmuto is expected to be robust, but with two years of control remaining, the Marlins are asking for a substantial return.

Realmuto has told the Marlins he won't sign a contract extension, prompting his agent to speculate that his client wouldn't be on the team come spring. Still, the team doesn't need to deal him if offers aren't to their liking as he isn't slated to hit free agency until after the 2020 campaign.
