The Boston Red Sox have accepted an invitation to visit the White House following their World Series win in October, team president and CEO Sam Kennedy confirmed, according to Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe.

No date has been scheduled, though the visit could come before the regular season begins, Abraham noted.

Manager Alex Cora had previously called out President Donald Trump in September for his "disrespectful" tweets that suggested the estimated amount of people who died when Hurricane Maria touched down in Puerto Rico - close to 3,000 Puerto Rican citizens - was exaggerated.

"To be tweeting about 3,000 people and be efficient, it's actually disrespectful for my country," Cora, who comes from Caguas, Puerto Rico, said. "We see it that way. I know probably he doesn't feel that way. ... I hate talking about politics and all that, but I think this is more than politics. This is about a country that really suffered, we still, you see the hurricanes forming now. Everybody's panicking. It's not easy."

Cora said in early November that he would respect the organization's decision on whether or not to visit the White House, according to Christopher Smith of MassLive.

"I've been using this platform (as manager) the right way the whole time," Cora said. "Whatever we decide is going to be respected. And if we decide to go, I will use my platform the right way."
