Machado expects boos at Fenway in Game 1

Manny Machado is prepared for the reaction he'll get when he steps onto the field at Fenway Park on Tuesday.

"We're going to get booed no matter what," the Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop told reporters, including MLB.com's Richard Justice, on Monday. "We're not in our territory. We're going to go out and try to compete as well as we can and leave it on the field and come out with a victory tomorrow."

It's not unusual for a visiting team to hear boos in an opposing park, but Machado enters the World Series against the Boston Red Sox on the heels of some controversial plays in the National League Championship Series - and after spending parts of seven seasons playing for the Baltimore Orioles, he has some history of his own with the American League champions.

In April 2017, Machado spiked popular Boston second baseman Dustin Pedroia in the knee during a slide. Two days later, Red Sox pitcher Matt Barnes threw a 90-mph fastball near Machado's head.

Barnes noted Monday that the Red Sox haven't forgotten what Machado did to Pedroia, but it doesn't seem to be on the Dodgers shortstop's mind.

"When you're on the field, things stay on the field," Machado said. "You play hard for your ballclub. You're trying to win games. You're trying to get to the World Series. I got here. I'm trying to win the World Series. Whatever happened on the field, happened on the field. There's really nothing more to say."
