Yadier Molina is finally taking a day off.

The durable backstop of the St. Louis Cardinals won't start behind the plate on Monday against the Los Angeles Dodgers, ending his streak of 27 consecutive starts at catcher - a record for a catcher his age, the most in baseball during the past 10 years, and two shy of the club record, according to Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Francisco Pena will start for the Cardinals.

Molina has a reputation for being one of the enduring backstops in baseball, appearing in 1,842 games - 1,808 as a catcher - during his 15-year career, which has included eight Gold Gloves.

The 36-year-old has started 92 of the Cardinals' 125 games so far this season.
