The Washington Nationals have traded outfielder Brian Goodwin to the Kansas City Royals for minor-league pitcher Jacob Condra-Bogan, the team announced Sunday.

Goodwin, 27, is a former first-round draft choice of the Nationals who was solid in limited duty last season (13 HRs, .811 OPS). He only managed to post a .200/.321/.354 slash line in 48 games for Washington this year.

With outfielders Bryce Harper, Adam Eaton, Juan Soto, and Michael A. Taylor all on the major-league roster, there wasn't much room left for Goodwin, who was also out of options. He should receive more playing time in Kansas City.

The Royals are currently using an outfield mix of Alex Gordon, Jorge Bonifacio, Rosell Herrera, and Paulo Orlando.

Condra-Bogan is a 23-year-old right-handed relief pitcher who appeared in 17 A-ball games this season for the Royals organization. He posted a high strikeout rate (13.3 per nine) and low WHIP (0.89).
