Despite the Chicago White Sox receiving outside interest in Jose Abreu, the club is reportedly strongly inclined to hold on to its highest-paid position player, according to Bob Nightengale of USA TODAY Sports.

It was reported earlier this month that the Houston Astros were interested in acquiring the first baseman, who was an All-Star for the second time in his career this season.

One of the most consistent hitters in the majors, Abreu has been dealing with a down season by his standards, slashing .251/.308/.436 with 13 home runs in 94 games.

The 31-year-old will enter his final season of arbitration next year before becoming a free agent after the 2019 season.
