Major League Baseball's gross revenues eclipsed $10 billion for the first time ever this past season, league sources told Maury Brown of Forbes.

2017 is the 15th straight year the league has generated record revenue.

The league increased sponsorship revenue 12 percent this season compared to the 2016 season, Brown reported earlier in November. Television media rights are another factor behind MLB's growth, and broadcasts drew considerable national interest this year.

For the first time since 2002, however, paid attendance at games fell below 73 million.
