After the MLBPA reportedly blocked the agreement between Major League Baseball and Nippon Professional Baseball that would approve an international posting system to oversee Shohei Ohtani's entrance into North America, the player's union quickly followed up with a deadline for the two leagues to reach a resolution.

Now, with hours remaining before the deadline, there has been no progress made between MLB and NPB as of Monday, according to a report from Jon Morosi of MLB Network.

The deadline, set for 8 p.m. ET on Monday, was imposed by the player's union in conjunction with reports that the transfer rules would damage player value.

According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the union's protestations originate from a series of provisions that would allow the posting period to carry into February - which could hamper the market of other free agents - as well as allow the Japanese team to renege on the posting if a large enough contract isn't reached.
