Still waiting: World Series loaded with players looking for 1st ring

Shanna Lockwood / USA TODAY Sports

The 2017 World Series is loaded with talent, but devoid of championship experience.

Only one player from the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros has won a World Series, and just four players have ever reached the Fall Classic. For comparison, the 2016 World Series between the Chicago Cubs and Cleveland Indians featured eight players who had previously won at least one championship.

Here's a look at the projected two rosters for the World Series, and how long each player has spent trying to reach baseball's biggest stage.

Los Angeles Dodgers

Dodgers second baseman Chase Utley is the lone player on either team who's won a World Series, earning his ring with the Philadelphia Phillies in 2008. Curtis Granderson reached the World Series twice, but lost in both 2006 and 2015.

While the roster lacks championship pedigree, skipper Dave Roberts does boast a ring. He was part of the 2004 Boston Red Sox club that reversed the curse.

Houston Astros

The Astros have never won a World Series in their 55-year existence, and the projected roster doesn't include a single player with a ring. Only Carlos Beltran (2013) and Justin Verlander (2006, 2012) have been to a World Series, with both coming out on the losing end.

Beltran ranks third among active players behind only Adrian Beltre and Ichiro Suzuki for most games played without winning a championship.
