Roberts: Seager progressing, could return for World Series
As the Los Angeles Dodgers inch closer to the Fall Classic, one key player could be ready to join them once - and or if - they get there.
Injured shortstop Corey Seager has ramped up baseball activities and continues to make progress, so much so, manager Dave Roberts believes the 23-year-old will return for the World Series, according to Andy McCullough of the Los Angeles Times.
A back injury forced the Dodgers to leave Seager off their National League Championship roster against the Chicago Cubs. The young shortstop said at the time that he suffered the injury sliding into second base in Game 3 of the NL Division Series.
Infielder Charlie Culberson has filled in as Seager's replacement at shortstop and entered Wednesday with two doubles in three NLCS games.
In his sophomore season, Seager was hampered for most of 2017 with elbow and ankle injuries, as well as the aforementioned back ailment. Seager still managed to perform well this year, finishing the regular season hitting .295/.375/.479 with 127 wRC+ and 5.7 WAR.
Seager combined to hit .273/.467/.455 in three NLDS games prior to his back injury.
