Dodgers' Ryu diagnosed with forearm contusion after being hit by line drive

Kirby Lee / USA TODAY Sports

If the Los Angeles Dodgers thought their pitchers were out of the woods, they may have been mistaken.

Left-hander Hyun-Jin Ryu was forced to leave Saturday night's game against the San Francisco Giants after he was hit by a line drive in the top of the third inning.

Ryu was diagnosed with a forearm contusion, as X-rays came back negative.

Giants second baseman Joe Panik returned a Ryu curveball that the pitcher was able to relay to first to record the out. He was then replaced by reliever Ross Stripling.

The Korean missed all of 2015 and most of 2016 with back, shoulder, and elbow injuries. He returned to the Dodgers this season, appearing in 23 games heading into Saturday. Through 122 1/3 innings, he's gone 5-7 with a 3.46 ERA and 1.332 WHIP.
