The New York Yankees avoided a major scare involving their ace.

Right-hander Luis Severino was drilled in the back of his left shoulder by a ball during batting practice prior to Saturday's game against the Toronto Blue Jays, and was forced to leave the field with Yankees trainer Steve Donohue.

The removal turned out to be precautionary, however, as the Yankees said it was a minor injury, and will be treated with ice, according to David Lennon of Newsday Sports.

The 23-year-old isn't scheduled to start in the series, but is lined up to potentially start for the Yankees in the wild-card game.
