Watch: Price flashes huge smile after knocking 1st hit in 7 years

Patrick McDermott / USA TODAY Sports

It's been a trying season for David Price, but the Boston Red Sox left-hander had plenty to be happy about Friday.

Thanks to National League rules, Price found himself in unfamiliar territory as he stepped up to the plate to lead off the seventh at the Cincinnati Reds' Great American Ball Park. That didn't deter him, though, as Price slapped a blooping single to shallow left for just the third hit of his career, and first since 2010.

After the knock, Price couldn't hold back a giant smile while standing on first, but his time on the basepaths was short-lived: Xander Bogaerts hit into a double play the very next at-bat to send Price back to the dugout.
