Dodgers' Turner leaves game after being hit on hand by pitch

The Los Angeles Dodgers removed Justin Turner from Thursday's contest in the middle of the second inning against the Philadelphia Phillies after he was hit on the right thumb by a pitch and briefly stayed in the game.

Turner got plunked by an 0-1 offering from Mark Leiter as the second batter of the game. After being rewarded first base, he was stranded to end the inning three batters later.

His X-ray results were negative and he's considered day to day with a hand contusion, according to Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register.

Turner returned to the field to patrol third base in the bottom of the inning, but was removed prior to the next defensive frame. Logan Forsythe shifted from shortstop to take over hot-corner duties, while Austin Barnes entered the game at second base.

The 32-year-old is having another great year, slashing .321/.413/.534 over 124 games entering Sunday, and has been an integral part of the Dodgers' 96-win season.
