Bryant confused by Cubs' on-base dance ritual

Almost everybody's dancing in Chicago these days.

At the urging of Kyle Schwarber, the red-hot Cubs have been dancing and waving to the dugout when they reach base in every game since the All-Star break. As long as they make some sort of gesture toward the dugout, players on base have the freedom to do whatever moves they choose - and many players are quickly trademarking their own unique styles.

Almost everyone on the North Side has caught on - with one notable exception. The ritual is starting to confuse reigning NL MVP Kris Bryant, and he's heard about it from teammates after forgetting to dance.

"They've been getting on me," Bryant told ESPN's Jesse Rogers. "I don't even know what we're doing. No one is telling me. There's no memo.

"All the other years, it was confirmed, like 'This is what we're doing,' but this year, are we waving? Is everyone doing their own thing? It's like, OK, whatever. You wave at me. I'll wave back to you."

Don't get Bryant wrong: he's fun-loving, and not at all opposed to taking part. But the freestyle nature of this ritual seems to have left him scratching his head and searching desperately for clarification on his role in the routine.

"That's where I'm a little confused," Bryant said. "I see people doing other things, and I'm like, 'Is that what we're doing?'

"We should have a team meeting on that. Are we waving or what? For singles, are we waving? What about doubles? When I get on first, I'm just happy I got to first. Now I have to worry about waving and thinking about all this stuff. We'll nail it down soon. It's crunch time."
