Report: Braves telling teams they're keeping Matt Adams
The Atlanta Braves welcomed Freddie Freeman back to their lineup at the beginning of July, which potentially could have meant Matt Adams' time in Georgia was up, but it appears that may not be the case.
With the trade deadline approaching, Atlanta is indicating to other teams it will hold Adams rather than move him, ESPN's Buster Olney reports.
According to Olney, the first baseman's affordability, offensive production, and lousy market for returns on position players are the reasons for him remaining with the Braves.
Adams came to the Braves in a trade with the St. Louis Cardinals after Freeman fractured his wrist in May. He was so productive at the time, Freeman returned to play an unfamiliar position at third base to accommodate having Adams in the lineup on more of a regular basis.
Since arriving in Atlanta, the 28-year-old Adams has hit .284/.332/.596 with 14 home runs and 36 RBIs in 199 plate appearances.
He will earn the remainder of his $2.8-million salary for this season and is arbitration eligible in 2018 before potentially becoming a free agent the following year.
Over the course of his career, Adams owns a .272/.317/.470 slash line with 70 home runs, 253 RBIs, and a .787 OPS.
