Mets' Flores: Puig doesn't understand 'having respect for the game'

Yasiel Puig made another enemy with another home run.

The outspoken Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder isn't shy about expressing himself while rounding the bases - as demonstrated by his one-game suspension for his middle-finger salute to Cleveland Indians fans earlier in June - and the New York Mets weren't fond of his long-ball theatrics Wednesday when he enjoyed watching his three-run shot fly in the fourth inning.

Mets infielder Wilmer Flores didn't appreciate Puig's long moment of admiration and subsequent slow trot, expressing his discontent postgame.

"I think there's a way to enjoy a home run," Flores told MLB.com's Joshua Thornton. "You enjoy it. You see it. But that was too much. ... I don't think he knows what having respect for the game is. We're playing horrible right now. We don't need his (expletive)."

Flores' assessment of the Mets' recent play isn't wrong. The team has now lost three straight - they went on to lose Wednesday's contest against Los Angeles 8-2 - and dropped to 31-40 on the season.

Puig, though, felt the Mets deserved what they got after they intentionally walked Joc Pederson ahead of him.

"They elected to pitch to me instead of pitching to (Pederson)," Puig said. "They thought it would be the same result whatever it was, the second or third inning and I hit the ground ball. They figured that would be an easier out and that's why I was able to do that."
