Women's golf got some spectacular news Friday.

After entering a partnership with the USGA, ProMedica will become the new presenting sponsor of the U.S. Women's Open in 2022, allowing the event's purse to increase to $10 million.

Since its inception, the U.S. Women's Open has long been considered the premier women's golf championship. The prize money will nearly double this year from $5.5 million to make it the highest purse in women's golf. The USGA plans to raise the prize money to $11 million and eventually $12 million over the next five years.

The U.S. Women's Open will also feature new host sites that include some of the most revered courses in the U.S. The USGA listed Pebble Beach Golf Links, Riviera Country Club, Oakmount Country Club, Pinehurst Resort & Country Club, and Merion Golf Club as future host venues of the event over the next two decades.

The 2022 U.S. Women's Open is scheduled for June 2-5 at the Pine Needles Lodge & Golf Club in Southern Pines, North Carolina.

"The USGA prides itself on conducting championships that not only provide an incredible stage for the athletes but also give younger players something to dream about," said USGA CEO Mike Whan. "This partnership with ProMedica allows us to substantially grow the championship in every way, from its purpose, to its purse, to the places that host the event."

ProMedica is a not-for-profit health and well-being organization serving 28 states. In addition to its presenting sponsorship with the U.S. Women's Open, ProMedica will also become the USGA's official health and well-being partner.
