Barcelona midfielder Arthur will be sidelined for approximately three-to-four weeks after suffering a left hamstring injury, the club announced Friday.

The ailment all but guarantees Arthur will miss the first leg of Barcelona's Champions League round-of-16 tie against Lyon. He is also likely to be ruled out for the second leg of the Copa del Rey semifinal against Real Madrid on Feb. 27, as well as the same fixture in La Liga three days later.

His injury comes at an inconvenient period for the Blaugrana, who are preparing for arguably their toughest month of the 2018-19 campaign.

Barcelona's upcoming matches

Date Opponent Competition
Feb. 2 (A) Athletic Bilbao La Liga
Feb. 16 (H) Valladolid La Liga
Feb. 19 (A) Lyon UCL
Feb. 23 (A) Sevilla La Liga
Feb. 27 (A) Real Madrid Copa del Rey
March 2 (A) Real Madrid La Liga
March 10 (H) Rayo Vallecano La Liga
March 13 (H) Lyon UCL

After a €31-million move from Gremio over the summer, Arthur quickly established himself as a key piece in Barcelona's three-man midfield, cementing a starting spot with Ivan Rakitic and one of Sergio Busquets or Arturo Vidal. In his stead, manager Ernesto Valverde will likely operate with Rakitic, Busquets, and Vidal as his starting trio, adding in La Masia product Carles Alena as the first option off the bench.
