Inter Milan hope to sign on-loan Manchester United forward Alexis Sanchez on a permanent transfer, according to BBC Sport's Simon Stone.

A few things would have to happen for a deal to come to fruition. The 31-year-old would have to take a pay cut, and United would have to give the Chilean a payout, Stone reports. Sanchez's deal runs until June 2022.

United agreed to pay a portion of Sanchez's £400,000 per week salary to facilitate his move to Inter last summer. He missed three months due to a tendon injury but eventually recaptured his form under Antonio Conte. Sanchez has had a hand in 10 goals since Serie A resumed play in June and became a regular starter in Italy.

It's unclear if Sanchez will be available for selection in the Europa League. United only extended his loan deal until the end of the first week of August, restricting him to Inter's round-of-16 clash against Getafe on Aug. 5.

United are also competing in the Europa League and may yet face Inter in the latter stages of the tournament.
