Aaron Ramsey is apparently set to become the highest-paid Briton in football history after signing a pre-contract agreement to join Juventus on Monday.

The Bianconeri will effectively capture Ramsey for nothing when his Arsenal contract expires, so BBC Sport's David Ornstein believes that helped his representatives negotiate a lucrative basic salary worth over £400,000 per week. Reports from Italy, however, suggest Ramsey will earn around €7 million per season, plus bonuses, which translates to roughly €140,000 per week.

The Welshman will officially conclude 11 years with Arsenal at the end of June, in time for when the four-year deal with his new employers begins on July 1.

Juventus' official statement reveals that the club will incur some costs for the transfer. Ramsey's registration costs €3.7 million and is scheduled to be paid before July 10. His mammoth wage may have been a tactic deployed by Juventus to ward off reported interest in the midfielder from Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich, Inter, and Real Madrid.

Ornstein understands Ramsey completed a two-part medical in late January after shunning a new Arsenal contract back in September. It's believed the Gunners didn't satisfy his salary demands during those discussions and that Ramsey was unhappy being unable to play an attack-minded No. 8 role in manager Unai Emery's starting XI.

Emery has instead regularly picked two deep-lying midfielders - usually two from Lucas Torreira, Matteo Guendouzi, and Granit Xhaka - with a No. 10 position, lessening Ramsey's opportunities to arrive late into the box and get on the end of chances.

Massimiliano Allegri often elects for a three-man midfield at Juventus. In that system, Ramsey appears to be a natural replacement for the dwindling physical capabilities of Sami Khedira.

Ramsey signed for Arsenal from Cardiff City in 2008 for around £4.8 million. He has since made 259 appearances for the Gunners, scoring 61 times. The 28-year-old has scored twice and assisted on six occasions in the current Premier League campaign despite being restricted to only nine starts.
