Embattled Germany boss Joachim Low will stay on as national team manager through next summer's European Championship, the German football federation (DFB) announced Monday.

Low, who has been in charge of Die Mannschaft since 2006, received a vote of confidence during a meeting on Monday in Frankfurt with executive members of the DFB and national team director Oliver Bierhoff.

"The presidential committee of the DFB decided unanimously this Monday during a teleconference to continue with coach Joachim Low on the difficult path of renewal started in March 2019," the DFB's statement read.

The World Cup-winning manager's tenure was thrust into doubt following the most recent international break when Germany suffered a historic 6-0 defeat to Spain in Seville on Nov. 17.

"A single game cannot and must not be a yardstick for the general performance of the national team and the national coach," the DFB's statement said of the result.

The Nations League loss to Spain capped an underwhelming spell in the calendar year for Germany that also included a pair of draws against Switzerland and a six-goal home stalemate with Turkey.

The DFB added that Low has already accomplished many of the national team's goals, which include qualification for next summer's rescheduled tournament, remaining in Nations League A, and securing a Pot A spot for the 2022 World Cup draw.

The 2020 European Championship will mark Low's seventh major tournament in charge of Germany since the former attacking midfielder succeeded Jurgen Klinsmann in July 2006.

Germany has been drawn into a challenging group alongside France, Portugal, and Hungary for Euro 2020, which kicks off in June 2021 following a year-long delay due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Low led Germany to successive third-place finishes at the World Cup before capturing international football's most coveted prize in 2014. He also guided Germany to the last-four or better in the last three European Championships, but his stock dropped after Die Mannschaft were shockingly eliminated from the group stage at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
