Buffon leaving PSG after 1 season
Gianluigi Buffon's time in Paris was short.
Paris Saint-Germain announced Wednesday that the veteran goalkeeper will leave the club when his contract expires later this month.
Buffon said on Instagram he was offered a new contract, but that he rejected it to take up new "personal experiences" and "professional challenges."
The 41-year-old, who joined PSG from Juventus on a free transfer last summer, made 25 appearances while splitting duties with protege Alphonse Areola.
PSG said in a statement they are "honored to have had the greatest goalkeeper in the history of football at the club."
Buffon won the Ligue 1 title and the Trophees des Champions during his brief spell in the capital, but his form was far from spectacular. He made a crucial error in the Champions League round of 16 that allowed Manchester United to mount a sensational comeback.
