Manchester United are "closely following" Monaco forward Wissam Ben Yedder as they look to bolster their attacking options this summer, sources told Julien Laurens of ESPN.

The 29-year-old French striker could leave the Ligue 1 side in the coming transfer window with Monaco currently experiencing financial troubles, Laurens noted.

Ben Yedder was enjoying a stellar season before Ligue 1 halted and eventually ended its season due to the coronavirus pandemic. His 18 goals tied him for the league lead with Kylian Mbappe.

Monaco need an injection of cash, and the club reportedly believes it can easily recoup the €30 million it paid to sign Ben Yedder from Sevilla last summer. He adds that the Red Devils are the first side to show concrete interest in Ben Yedder, who appears likely to wait and see how the transfer window unfolds before making a decision about his future.

Manchester United have been linked with a number of attackers in recent months as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks to strengthen his squad. The likes of Jadon Sancho and Harry Kane have been tipped as mega-money targets, while Moussa Dembele and Victor Osimhen remain potential options elsewhere in Ligue 1. Ben Yedder represents the most economical target of the lot.
