Euro 2024 odds: England, France lead the pack
The Euro 2024 kicks off Friday with six groups comprised of four clubs in each. Like the World Cup, this event is held every four years, as 24 top European nations compete to claim their stake as the continent's top soccer country. Germany, which has the most Euro championships but hasn't won since 1996, is the host this summer.
Like most international sporting events, there's a group stage in which two teams from each group advance to the round of 16. From there, a single elimination tournament determines the winner. Let's take a look at the favorites.
EURO 2024 champion odds
Country | Odds |
---|---|
England | +350 |
France | +400 |
Germany | +500 |
Portugal | +650 |
Spain | +700 |
Italy | +1200 |
Belgium | +1500 |
Netherlands | +1500 |
Croatia | +3000 |
Denmark | +4000 |
England finished runner-up in the 2020 Euros before losing to Italy in the championship match. Despite never claiming the tournament's top prize, England is the favorite to capture its first Euro title.
France is the second favorite as an international powerhouse consistently in the mix of winning major events. It hasn't won the Euros since 2000 but was the World Cup runner-up in 2022 and World Cup champion in 2018.
Germany always fields a contender, but its advantage as the host country boosts its chances of securing the trophy.
Although Italy won the tournament in 2021 (the 2020 Euros were played in 2021 due to COVID), its roster isn't as strong this time, resulting in the sixth-best odds.
France is the most bet team on theScore Bet and ESPN Bet. Kylian Mbappe surely fuels part of that as a generational talent whose notoriety is elevated at large-scale events such as the Euros and World Cup.
England is the second-most bet team, followed by Germany, Portugal, and Spain.
Group B is considered the toughest, with a pair of top-six favorites leading the pack in Spain and Italy. Spain is -125 to win the group, and Italy is +200. While 65% of the bets are on Spain compared to 25% on Italy, 50% of the handle is on Italy, meaning more money's coming in on Italy despite fewer total bets.
Two teams from each group advance to the round of 16 and plus the best four third-placed teams, so Italy and Spain are expected to emerge from a group rounded out by Croatia and Albania.
Top goalscorer odds
Players | Odds |
---|---|
Kylian Mbappe | +450 |
Harry Kane | +550 |
Cristiano Ronaldo | +1200 |
Romelu Lukaku | +1400 |
Jude Bellingham | +2000 |
Olivier Giroud | +2500 |
Phil Foden | +2500 |
Antoine Griezmann | +2800 |
Kai Havertz | +2800 |
Alvaro Morata | +2800 |
Mbappe, unsurprisingly, is the favorite to score the most goals and has received most of the bets (26%). Harry Kane has the second-shortest odds and is the second-most bet player. Whoever's teams make it the furthest will have the most opportunities to rack up goals, which explains why Mbappe (France) and Kane (England) are the favorites.
Mbappe scored the most goals at the 2022 World Cup, winning the Golden Boot with eight goals, including a hat-trick in the final. He's largely considered the greatest player in the world.
Kane was one goal shy of tying the top scorer at the 2021 Euros. That honor went to Cristiano Ronaldo, who is still competing for his native Portugal at 39. It's fair to expect this will be Ronaldo's last hurrah in the Euros, a tournament he won with Portugal in 2016.
Romelu Lukaku was also one goal short of the Golden Boot at the last Euros. He's one of the most dominant strikers in the world and represents Belgium, which has the seventh-best odds and never won the Euros.
