Barcelona outcast Denis Suarez is close to joining Arsenal on loan, The Guardian's David Hytner and Sid Lowe report, just days after negotiations between the two clubs had seemingly broken down.

A purchase option is believed to be the final hurdle, as the Gunners are still intent on a voluntary clause to make the midfielder's switch permanent.

Ben Hayward of the Evening Standard reports that the move will be announced later Tuesday after Suarez signs a new contract with the Catalan side. He adds Arsenal will pay a €2.5-million fee for the loan until the end of the season, which will reunite the midfielder with manager Unai Emery, who oversaw the Spanish international while at Sevilla.

Talks reportedly broke down last Wednesday, when Barcelona seemed reluctant to offload Suarez via a dry loan, insisting on either a €20-million fee up front or mandatory option.

Suarez, whose current contract with Barcelona expires in 2020, has struggled to crack manager Ernesto Valverde's lineup this season, reportedly leading to his representatives gauging outside interest in the player. Suarez has appeared in just eight games across all competitions this term, one year after making 27 appearances with the La Liga champions.

The 25-year-old joined Barcelona in a €3.5-million move from Villarreal in 2016 and has since scored eight goals in 71 matches. He was also a member of the 2014-15 Sevilla squad that won the Europa League under Emery.
