Spurs clinch Sessegnon signing

Tottenham's long-running infatuation with burgeoning England youth international Ryan Sessegnon has finally borne fruit.

Spurs announced the signing of Sessegnon from Fulham on Thursday, adding that the London-born, left-sided virtuoso has penned a six-year deal for a reported initial £25-million fee that could rise by an additional £5 million.

Sessegnon, 19, was first linked with Tottenham in 2017 while playing in the second tier with the Cottagers amid a standoff between left-back Danny Rose and Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino.

That issue was resolved, and Sessegnon would go on to play 35 times last season for Fulham in the top flight, becoming the first player born in the 2000s to register a Premier League goal.

Now, it appears that the teen's arrival in north London has all but cemented Rose's summer departure. Also on the way out is Spurs academy grad John Onomah, who's off to Fulham on a permanent deal after a failure to earn first-team minutes at White Hart Lane prompted successive loan spells at Aston Villa and Sheffield Wednesday.

Able to ply his trade at left-back or on the wing, Sessegnon has enjoyed a stellar career progressing up the rungs of England's youth setup. He was part of the team that won the European Under-19 Championship in 2017, and was named to the Team of the Tournament before earning promotion to the Under-21 side.

Sessegnon has also twice been named to the PFA Championship Team of the Year for his exploits at Fulham during the 2016-17 and 2017-18 campaigns.
