There's seemingly no end in sight in Chelsea's quest to overhaul their struggling squad.

Following the arrival of five new players this month, the work continues for the free-spending Blues after they renewed their interest in signing Benfica and Argentina star Enzo Fernandez, according to The Guardian's Jacob Steinberg.

Benfica had already rejected Chelsea's initial approach for the World Cup winner. Earlier this month, Chelsea tabled an offer to Benfica worth less than the £106-million release clause in the 22-year-old midfielder's contract before talks broke down.

However, Benfica's reluctance hasn't put Chelsea off, as talks between the two clubs are set to resume later this week, Steinberg reports.

Fernandez has reportedly indicated his desire to leave, but Benfica are eager to hold on to him until the end of the season. The Portuguese club is set to compete in the Champions League round of 16 next month.

Chelsea signed Andrey Santos, Benoit Badiashile, Mykhailo Mudryk, and Noni Madueke to permanent deals this month to help improve the 11th-placed team and offset numerous injuries. The team also signed Joao Felix on loan from Atletico Madrid.

In total, Chelsea have paid £460 million for new players since Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital bought the club last year.
