Chelsea are increasing their efforts to tie Mason Mount down to a longer and improved contract as Liverpool consider an approach for the midfielder this summer, according to The Guardian's Jacob Steinberg.

The Englishman's current deal expires at the end of next season, and Chelsea - the club he's represented since the age of 6 - are yet to meet his wage demands. He's apparently one of the Blues' lower earners with a pay packet worth £75,000 per week.

Liverpool are already planning a summer move for Mount and could face competition from Juventus for his signature, Steinberg reports. The Merseyside club is also tracking Brighton & Hove Albion's Moises Caicedo - who was reportedly the subject of a failed £55-million bid from Chelsea - Borussia Dortmund's Jude Bellingham, and Wolverhampton Wanderers' Matheus Nunes.

The Reds signed attacker Cody Gakpo for a fee that could reportedly reach £50 million after add-ons this January, but Jurgen Klopp's midfield is regularly cited as a problem area in the 2022-23 campaign.

Mount, 24, broke into the Chelsea first team in 2019 after loan spells with Vitesse Arnhem and Derby County. He's made 123 Premier League appearances, scoring 27 goals and tallying 22 assists. The versatile midfielder won the Champions League in 2021 and has 36 England caps.
