West Ham United are trying to solve their issues in front of goal with an offer for Aston Villa's Danny Ings, according to The Telegraph's Mike McGrath.

Irons manager David Moyes reportedly wants an experienced striker to relieve some of the goal-scoring burden from Michail Antonio and Gianluca Scamacca, who collectively have five goals over 34 Premier League appearances. Attacker Maxwel Cornet, a signing from Burnley last summer, has been sidelined since October due to complications relating to a calf injury suffered during his club debut.

With 68 goals over 188 top-flight outings, Ings appears to fit the bill for Moyes. Aston Villa boss Unai Emery apparently didn't plan to offload the former Burnley, Liverpool, and Southampton marksman during the January window but would like to free up funds to sign more players this winter.

Premier League's lowest scorers

League standing Team Goals scored
20th Southampton 17
13th Nottingham Forest 15
18th West Ham 15
19th Everton 15
16th Wolverhampton Wanderers 12

Ings is valued at around £15 million, but McGrath doesn't disclose how much West Ham tabled for the Englishman.

Despite considerable spending during last summer's transfer window, West Ham are languishing in 18th place in the table and haven't won a Premier League match since October. West Ham are likely to sack Moyes if his team can't beat fellow strugglers Everton on Saturday, The Guardian's Andy Martin reports.
