League Cup semifinal draw: Manchester United face doubleheader with Forest
Manchester United will face Nottingham Forest in the League Cup semifinals as the northwest giants attempt to capture their first major trophy since 2017.
The Red Devils' chances in the competition improved after their rivals Manchester City surprisingly lost 2-0 at Southampton on Wednesday. Forest's first-choice goalkeeper, Dean Henderson, who's on loan from Manchester United, will also be ineligible to play against his parent club in the final four.
Newcastle United, who are currently above Manchester United in the Premier League table, will take on Southampton in their two-legged semifinal. The Magpies are seeking their first piece of major silverware since their FA Cup triumph in 1955, although some members of the Toon Army may suggest the team's 1969 success in the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup was its last significant accomplishment.

The semifinal doubleheaders will be contested in the weeks commencing Jan. 23 and Jan. 30. Nottingham Forest and Southampton will host the opening legs.
