Manchester City's long wait to celebrate the inevitable is over.

Pep Guardiola and Co. were crowned as Premier League champions on Tuesday, clinching the title after Manchester United's 2-1 defeat to Leicester City at Old Trafford.

City, long boasting a hefty lead atop the table, now hold an unassailable 10-point advantage over their local rivals with three matches remaining.

The triumph is Manchester City's third in the last four seasons.

The club has now earned seven top-flight English titles. Only four teams - United, Liverpool, Arsenal, and Everton - have won more.

"This has been a season and a Premier League title like no other," Guardiola said. "This was the hardest one. We will always remember this season for the way that we won. I am so proud to be the manager here and of this group of players.

"They are so special. To come through this season - with all the restrictions and difficulties we've faced - and show the consistency we have is remarkable," the decorated manager added.

After a rickety start to the campaign, Guardiola altered his tactics while opting for a more measured and less explosive approach, and the change paid major dividends.

Following a loss to Tottenham Hotspur in late November, City went on an incredible 19-match unbeaten run in the Premier League, winning 17 of those games and establishing an insurmountable lead in the standings. They outscored their opponents 45-6 over that spell.

The club put together a 28-game unbeaten stretch across all competitions before Manchester United halted that streak in March.

Unlike previous seasons when City's dazzling collection of attack-minded players were blowing the competition away, this year's success was built around solid defensive foundations, with the addition of Ruben Dias proving vital. City have conceded only 26 goals in 35 matches while boasting a league-best goal differential and underlying numbers that easily outpace the rest of the division.

With two titles already in tow this campaign after City claimed yet another League Cup in April, attention now turns to the Champions League final, when Guardiola's star-studded outfit will look to beat Chelsea on May 29 to close out the season with a treble.
