Leicester City's injury concerns worsened with the news that central defender Caglar Soyuncu could miss up to three months with a hip injury he suffered while on international duty with Turkey.

Foxes boss Brendan Rodgers confirmed Soyuncu's status following Sunday's last-minute defeat to Aston Villa.

"Soyuncu is more serious in terms of the muscle is right off the bone, so he could be up to three months, which is an absolute shame for him," Rodgers told the club's website.

"He did it the day before training with the Turkish national team. So, he'll be a big miss, and he adds to the other boys that are out," Rodgers added.

Soyuncu, who was included in last season's PFA Team of the Year, had formed a first-choice central defensive pairing with Jonny Evans prior to his injury.

Without Soyuncu, summer signing Wesley Fofana performed admirably during his league debut versus Villa, leading all players in clearances (nine), aerial duels (seven), and interceptions (six).

Rodgers also confirmed that star striker Jamie Vardy is unlikely to feature in Thursday's UEFA Europa League Group G tie with Zorya Luhansk as he recovers from a calf issue.

"Jamie will probably miss the European game and hopefully he'll be okay for our next league game," he said. "It's just a reoccurrence of what he's had over the last number of years, Jamie."

Soyuncu and Vardy are part of a laundry list of key Leicester contributors who are sidelined with injuries alongside Wilfred Ndidi and Ricardo Pereira.
