Belgium talisman Kevin De Bruyne has been ruled out for Wednesday's Nations League trip to Iceland due to fitness concerns, the national team announced Monday.
De Bruyne will now return to Manchester City.
The 29-year-old captained Belgium against England on Sunday, playing 73 minutes before being substituted in the 2-1 defeat.
"I would not say that Kevin is injured ... He said he felt something," Belgium coach Roberto Martinez said, per The Independent's Alex Pattle.
"It is too early to know what he has, but he did not feel 100% (against England)," Martinez added. "It was rather a precautionary change."
City have not commented on De Bruyne's status ahead of Saturday's Premier League match against Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium.
