Manager Jurgen Klopp questioned Liverpool's ability to overcome adversity and admitted his side "lost the plot" during Sunday's humiliating 7-2 loss to Aston Villa.

"All their good moments lead to a big chance or goals, and that makes all the difference," Klopp told reporters post-match, according to Reuters. "All the things you should not do in a football match we did tonight, but all credit to Aston Villa, as they forced us to do those things.

"The first goal had an impact but it shouldn’t. We conceded goals like that in the past, but the reaction wasn't good, and we lost the plot."

On the heels of Manchester United's historic 6-1 loss to Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool suffered a similarly humbling defeat in a match Aston Villa dominated from start to finish.

Though Klopp credited Villa's spirited performance, the German manager said individual mistakes by the defending Premier League champions proved to be the difference.

"Pretty much everyone made massive mistakes around the goals," Klopp said, according to David Hytner of The Guardian.

"The first was obviously (goalkeeper) Adrian, but the reaction around the goal was an even bigger mistake. We have to take risks and that is absolutely normal, but we have to protect the risks and we didn't do that. Each ball we lost was a massive counterattack. They were quicker of mind than we were."

Adrian replaced Alisson as Liverpool's starting 'keeper after the Brazilian suffered a shoulder injury in training prior to the match. Klopp said Alisson will likely need six weeks to recover, a timeline that would rule him out for the Merseyside derby against Everton on Oct. 17.

The Reds sit fifth in the Premier League after four matches, three points back of leaders Everton.
