At long last, Manchester United have their man.

The Red Devils confirmed the signing of midfielder Bruno Fernandes on Thursday, one day after announcing an agreement was reached with Sporting CP over a transfer fee.

United didn't disclose the amount paid to Sporting, but reports suggest the deal is worth up to €80 million after add-ons.

Fernandes, 25, completed his medical and agreed to personal terms on Thursday, inking a five-and-a-half-year deal that includes an option for an additional season.

"My love of Manchester United really started when I used to watch Cristiano Ronaldo play and ever since then I have been a big fan of this great club," Fernandes said after finalizing his opulent move. "For me to now play for Manchester United feels incredible, I have worked hard to get to this moment and I can promise the fans that I will give everything for the badge to help bring us more success and trophies."

The Portuguese international, capped 19 times for his country, scored 63 goals and added 52 assists in 137 appearances for Sporting.

He should provide Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side with a much-needed jolt of creativity, and can slot into multiple midfield positions.

"We have been tracking Bruno for many months and everyone here has been tremendously impressed with all his attributes and what he will bring to this team," Solskjaer said.

He added: "Most importantly he is a terrific human being with a great personality and his leadership qualities are clear for all to see. Bruno's goals and assists stats speak for themselves, he will be a fantastic addition to our team, and he will help us push on in the second part of the season."

Fernandes' United debut could come Saturday at Old Trafford against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
