Report: Silva will remain in charge of Everton after international break
Marco Silva will still be Everton manager after the international break despite the spendthrift club's disappointing start to the Premier League campaign, according to The Telegraph's Jason Burt.
The Toffees are stuck in the relegation zone after consecutive top-flight defeats to Bournemouth, Sheffield United, Manchester City, and Burnley. The club will reconvene on Oct. 19 to face West Ham United at Goodison Park.
Additionally, Manchester City are the only "big six" team that Everton have faced in the campaign's opening weeks, adding to concerns that it won't get any easier for Silva's side.
The early slump follows yet another summer overhaul that featured expensive incoming deals for Alex Iwobi and Moise Kean, along with the departures of Idrissa Gueye and Ademola Lookman. Since Silva was hired in the summer of 2018, Everton have spent nearly £200 million on transfers.
Nevertheless, Silva was apparently frustrated at Everton's failure to acquire a center-back in the summer. His side's defensive issues are well-documented - particularly its tendency to concede from set-pieces - yet there was no offseason replacement for Kurt Zouma, who returned to Chelsea after last term's loan spell on Merseyside.
It's understood Silva met with majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri twice in recent weeks and received assurances that he'll be given time to address Everton's struggles. However, the Portuguese boss acknowledged the predicament he's under following the weekend's loss at Burnley.
"When I say to you it is a must-win game, it is a must-win game," Silva said of the upcoming meeting with West Ham. "We should win that game, we must win that game to get the three points and get a better position on the table and grow our confidence."
He added: "I don't have any problems with the pressure."
