Eliaquim Mangala's time at Manchester City came to an end Monday with news that Valencia have reached an agreement to sign the French defender.

Mangala, who spent the 2016-17 season on loan with Els Taronges, will return to the Mestalla after signing a two-year contract with the club, the Spanish side announced.

Although terms of the transfer weren't revealed, it's understood that City were willing to allow Mangala to leave on a free transfer despite the club paying £42 million to sign him from FC Porto in 2014, according to a report from The Telegraph's Luke Edwards in July.

Mangala was reportedly instructed to find a new club after City left him off the traveling squad ahead of their preseason tour of China this summer.

Injuries and poor form resulted in limited opportunities for Mangala with City before the club loaned him to Valencia and Everton in successive seasons.
