Ruthless Manchester City drop 6 on woeful Chelsea
Manchester City showed no mercy.
An onslaught of early goals - four in the opening 25 minutes - set the tone at the Etihad on Sunday, as the reigning Premier League champions regained top spot in the table courtesy of a 6-0 annihilation of Chelsea.
Sergio Aguero moved level with Alan Shearer by netting his 11th Premier League hat-trick, while a Raheem Sterling brace and Ilkay Gundogan strike rounded out the frequent scoring.
Pep Guardiola's side, rampant from the opening minute, sits level on 65 points with Liverpool but holds first place based on a superior goal difference. The Reds, however, have one match in hand on the title holder.
The humiliating loss for Chelsea, meanwhile, continues a worrying trend of struggles away from home in 2019. The Blues have lost their last three Premier League away matches - against City, Bournemouth, and Arsenal, respectively - by a combined score of 12-0.
Maurizio Sarri's men dropped down to sixth with the toothless defeat, behind the Gunners by virtue of their suddenly inferior goal difference.
