London's Metropolitan Police are launching an investigation after cameras at Saturday's affair between Chelsea and Manchester City captured a Blues fan allegedly racially abusing Raheem Sterling, according to Rob Harris of the Associated Press.

During the match, footage quickly began to circulate on social media in which Chelsea supporters can be seen shouting at Sterling as he retrieves the ball near the corner flag. One of the fans in question is alleged to have made a racial remark during the altercation.

"We will review the footage to determine whether any offences have been committed," the police said in a statement.

According to Vaishali Bhardwaj of the Evening Standard, Chelsea have launched their own investigation into the matter, and the fan may be punished with a lifetime ban from Stamford Bridge if found guilty.

Several people addressed the concerning footage, including retired Arsenal legend Ian Wright.

Chelsea defeated City 2-0, handing Pep Guardiola's side its first loss of the Premier League campaign.
