New Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel is already preparing for what figures to be a busy summer.

Less than two weeks after his appointment, The Guardian's Jacob Steinberg reports that Chelsea will enter the race to sign Bayern Munich defender David Alaba.

Signing the 28-year-old won't require a transfer fee as Alaba can leave Bayern for free this summer.

Chelsea could be set for changes after their spending spree last year failed to produce results.

However, the Blues have a lot of ground to make up in the Alaba sweepstakes. It was reported in January that the two-time Champions League winner reached an agreement on a four-year contract worth €12 million per season to join Real Madrid this summer.

Although nothing has been announced, Los Blancos are still considered the front-runners to land Alaba, Steinberg notes.

Real Madrid reportedly view the versatile defender, who's comfortable at left-back and center-back, as a possible replacement for Sergio Ramos if the Spanish icon leaves.
