Schalke's slide continued Sunday with a 3-0 defeat at home to relegation-threatened Augsburg.

David Wagner's outfit is without a win in nine Bundesliga matches after mounting an unexpected challenge for the Champions League places earlier this season. Schalke's dire run equals the winless streak overseen by Huub Stevens at the end of the 1999-2000 campaign.

Augsburg snapped their own winless streak of six matches with the victory.

It took Augsburg only six minutes to take the lead in Gelsenkirchen. Eduard Lowen placed the ball down after Rani Khedira won a free-kick outside the Schalke area and struck an unstoppable effort beyond under-fire goalkeeper Markus Schubert.

Schalke controlled possession in the first half but never looked like they'd do much with it. To make matters even worse for the hosts, influential midfielder Suat Serdar exited with an injury shortly after halftime.

Augsburg were in control for much of the second period and eventually put the game out of reach. Noah Joel Sarenren Bazee capitalized on some poor defending and smashed the ball into the top corner after 76 minutes before more sloppiness from Schalke allowed Sergio Cordova to round the 'keeper in added time.

Schalke have scored two goals in their past nine league matches. They travel to Fortuna Dusseldorf on Wednesday.
